    The first Tuesday after the first Monday in May - my thoughts on the 2024 Met Gala ⌛ Greetings my fellow couch-potato fashion critics! Last night brought us plenty to talk about – including the three T’s of building an immersive event environment: Theme, Theatre and inTrigue. “The Garden of Time” The Met Gala theme is announced three months prior to the event – with 450 esteemed guests working furiously alongside their high-profile designers of choice to interpret Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour’s thematic direction on The Costume Institute’s newest installation “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”. With all eyes on the guest arrivals – the Met Gala seamlessly transitions to being a delightfully exclusive affair. “Please take your seats” It begins with the infamous seating chart, painstakingly planned to perfection over a six-month period to ensure that the Met Gala is not reduced to a fluffy PR red carpet (this year white ombré carpet) exercise for the guests themselves. Cell phone cameras are covered at the door, and the focus moves to guest experience within the exhibit – this is a brilliant choice for controlling messaging and building up curiosity. The fomo is real y’all – in an era of social media transparency, we (the couch-potato audience) are suddenly pushed back to arm’s length to speculate on what could possibly be going on inside The Met. “Florals? For Spring? Ground-breaking” In this case Miranda - it truly is. “Sleeping Beauties” will spotlight 250 items from the Institute’s permanent collection and display them in entirely new ways – using video animation, CGI and AI to enhance the natural beauty of each item. These digital additions should be seamless, used to enhance the narrative of each piece. Many pieces will be displayed without protective glass in order to reduce glare and improve content capture for guests. It won’t be your grandmother’s museum tour – and you have only to look at the exhibit’s main sponsor (TikTok) to understand how pervasive and informative social media is in creating effective marketing campaigns for legacy brands like Vogue and The Metropolitan Museum. “Oh. Okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you” 📣 Why is this important? Vogue hosted the evening’s exclusive livestream for the fourth year running – and with 2023’s event generating over 53M views, it’s a given that 2024 will have blown those numbers out of the water(garden) yet again. By maximizing celebrity and social media in the buildup to the First Monday in May, we can’t help but tune in to an event that We Never Actually See. 🐝 Talk about creating a buzz! xoxo Nadine
