Video streaming/production company First Sight Media introduced ultra high definition to Event Tech Live (ETL) 2018’s content platform this year.

An ETL partner since the show started in 2014, First Sight Media put its latest kit to work at the Old Truman Brewery in November, recording all the content from Event Tech Live’s five stages, delivering 4k live streams from select sessions and highlights videos at the end of both show days.

“Each element was designed to create a buzz at key moments and ensure maximum reach,” MD, Richard Belcher says. “As ETL is about technology we shot everything in 4k, from interviews for the highlights videos to every second of every stage, even the live stream was in 4k.”

Event Tech Live has amplified the positives for live streaming in the last couple of years. Far from jeopardising attendee numbers, it’s shown to be an invaluable marketing tool and proven to build momentum and may have encouraged people previously undecided to actually attend.

To that end, First Sight Media picked three sessions for live streaming. The first stream was prepared early on Day One to raise event profile and interest to attend, the second stream was broadcast from the afternoon programme to encourage attendees for Day Two, and the third to shout the benefits of ETL’s second afternoon.

The service was available free-of-charge via ETL’s YouTube channel, advertised via social media, embedded on the ETL homepage and supplemented by daily highlights videos. Each of the other staged sessions were made available within 48 hours – again on the ETL YouTube channel.

In terms of brute numbers, during the show, ETL’s YouTube channel had a more than 1.7k views of the live streams from 16 countries, the highlight videos had 500 views in the first 24 hours of their release and there were 89 new channel subscribers within 48 hours of the event.

The new content had over 13k impressions in the week after ETL 2018 with 9k minutes viewed by 6.2k viewers in 20 countries. All that on top of a 35% increase in attendees, shows that 4k video and live streaming really do add serious buzz to an event.

“My thanks to the First Sight Media team,” Paul Allott, Event Director & Co-Founder at Event Tech Live said.

“Live streaming was a success once again and, contrary to what I once thought, it has actually helped to increase the number of attendees at Event Tech Live. I encourage other organisers to switch on and see the benefits for themselves.”
